Herb Lady Shops - Fall 2002
My friend Pansy and I joined the herb gardening classes this summer. We met the nicest folks, and also learned so much about herbs. Even hubby Clary Sage is using lovage as a barbecue brush and eating nasturtiums in his salad. Pansy and I came to the Herb Shop today to get in the mood for Fall. The shop looks so fresh and new. I just love the scent of this Apple Jack and Peel potpourri. I see the new fall candles are in. I want to try the Spiced Pear old fashioned jar candle. And Id better get a whole box of the pumpkin spice votives. Everyone loves them. I am going to stock up on the Harvest Moon tea that they are serving today. Last year the limited edition supply was sold out in a week! It is sooo delicious-hot or iced. Pansy and I are enjoying a second cup as we browse. I love the Herb Shop pumpkin dip. I hope they will serve it at the big program on September 13 when Betsy Williams is speaking. All the gal pals and I are going. We wouldnt miss seeing Betsy again. The town hall was sold out the last time she visited. I spotted a new Thymes lotion Ginger Milk. That looks like the perfect lotion for that winter alligator dry skin I always seen to get. Kathleen says milk is nourishing for the skin and ginger stimulates circulation promoting better skin cell health. Sounds great to me. I am going to try the bath salts, too. And this time I am going to get one of those microwaveable herbal teddy bears. It will be just the thing to treat my arthritis on a cold winter night. One taste of this new Peach Cobbler cheeseball and I know it will be a favorite for sister Hidcote. She loves the gardenia bead potpourri too. I think Ill prepare a thinking of yougift for her including a bar of Tamis Lavender Ripple soap, her favorite. She needs a bit of cheering up now that niece Marigold is back in college. So, Pansy and I are off with our herb shop purchases bringing the scents of the season to our home.

Spring is always so welcome on the northcoast. I am so ready to work in the garden. I promised Grannie Verbena some new purple mud gloves to wear in the garden so I am off to the herb shop. I can hardly wait to sniff the scents. Kathleen puts vanilla fragrance oil in the heat ventsno wonder the shop smells so delightful. They have some new Cappaccino scented rosehips. Ill bet hubby Clary Sage would like a bowl of those in his den. He needs more Burts Bees after shave balm too. It keeps his cheeks sooo soft and kissable. I see they have new hand-made soaps. The big blocks of colorful, fragrant soaps make an irresistable eye-catching display. Ooo! How about an Ala-Kazam Patchouly for hubby. The sign says it is sensuous, earthy, stimulating, soothing and seductive! The Milk and Mint bar will be perfect for sister Hidcotes sensitive dry skin. Look at these gorgeous floral linen garden aprons with hat, bag and gloves to match. I know mother Rosemary would love that ensemble for Mothers Day. And Ill stock up on summer candles. I like the big bundt cake candles in the summer fragrances. It is so hard to choose, but I like Kiwi Strawberry and Lemon Meringue Pie. Great idea for my summer garden party centerpiece. We are going to have a big family reunion this year for Memorial Day. Look at all the selections here in the patriotic room. Theres linens, garlands, flags, stars, pins, candles, signs and even a patriotic Christmas tree. My party will be a hit. I am proud to be an American and I am going to show the world this holiday! I cant leave without stocking up on our favorite Key Lime Pie and Tomato Pesto cheeseball mixes. Cousin Tansy is coming and she just loves them. Happy spring planting.

Herb Lady Shops - January 2002
I am off to the herb shop on this snowy day to use the gift certificate that Cousin Tansy sent me. I am eager to stock up on my favorite winter skin care items now that snow and dry skin have finally arrived. I need a nice bar of lavender oatmeal soap for the shower and that delightful rose geranium for my face. Ooo! The lovely scent of roses and chamomile in the new EO body quencher oil has captured my attention. How delightfully nurturing! The Valentines soaps are in and I am going to get bars for all the gal pals in my herb group. These new Primal soaps are so fragrant. I see the Herb Shop gals are already preparing the shop for spring and Valentines Day. Grannie Verbena will get a lovely rose tea pot and some rose petal tea for her birthday. Kathleen says roses increase happiness by releasing endorphins. I think Ill get some for me too! That ought to make hubby Clary Sage happy. He seems to have a few more aches and pains lately so I am going to treat him to a microwavable feeling good bag filled with herbs for those aching shoulders. And some muscle soak massage lotion ought to put the spring back into his step. I promised mother Rosemary that I would get some of that popular Key Lime Cheeseball dip for her next bridge night. Her club is just raving about her desserts now that we have discovered the Herb Shops cheeseballs. Ann says they even makes delicious pies. I love these new herbal heart wreaths. This one would look great in our bedroom right over the bed. I am going to visit the new Closet Scenter cupboard and fill my own closet bags to put in all my rooms. Hubby even likes them in his slippers and tucked into his golf bag. I am going to put them in all of our suitcases and closets. A few bags of the natural simmering spices ought to make the house smell even better. My New Years resolutions include using herbs to prevent and treat everyday ailments. Hubby and I are using the peppermint headache bag whenever we feel a twinge come on. We also drink a quart of green tea a day to load up on anti-oxidants. His favorite is Kiwi Pear and mine is Pineapple Ginger. I am using eucalyptus essential oil to keep the air clear of viruses. I learn something new at the herb shop every time I visit.

The gal pals in my herb group are having an herbal facial day so I am visiting the herb shop for ideas and suggestions. The herb shop gals suggested a facial steam using chamomile, lavender, spearmint and roses. Sounds delightful. The steam will open our pores to allow a facial mask to pull out the impurities. We will mix red clay and rosewater for a soothing mask. Hubby Clary Sage threatens to come with the camera! We will moisturize with Burts Bees Carrot Lotion. Kathleen says carrot seed oil, a high concentration of Vitamin A, keeps skin cells healthy and reduces the signs of aging. Count me in on that!!! All the herb group gal pals will leave our meeting so radiant. I am getting all the supplies for our facial kits today. I see the herb shop is slowly transforming to spring. It seems we have had winter so long already. I am eager to shop for seeds and see the bulbs coming up in the garden. I see the Renees Garden seeds have arrived. Did you know Renee reacquired Shepherds Seeds from White Flower Farm? I am glad the seeds are back with their original creator. She offers so many nasturtiums that I will have a hard time choosing. Guess hubby will have to till another section in the garden. Of course I will get some watercolor pansies for best friend, Pansy. Her garden would not be without them. Niece Marigold made a request from college for one of those microwavable pocket critters. I think I will pick this adorable penguin for her. She wants to tuck it into her pocket when she walks to class on these cold winter mornings. I gave her a blueberry Moose Smooch lip balm for Christmas and now everyone on her dorm floor wants one. Maybe Kathleen could open an annex at her college! Mother Rosemary is out of her favorite Rose Petal Tea. I am glad they have a good supply. Roses induce feelings of happiness and she needs all the help we can give in that area! I am definitely going to put my favorite items on the Herb Shop Registry. Hubby is always overwhelmed when he comes here to shop for me. I am soo excited because now I will get all the Herb Shop items I love for my birthday!!

Herbs for a Healthy Heart
Excessive intake of sodium or salt has been proven to increase heart disease. Many people automatically reach for the salt shaker for all foods. We have become accustomed to the flavor boost that salt provides. Herbs can replace salt by adding increased flavor to all foods, especially those that are mild or bland. Herbs contain essential or flavor oils within their cells. When you sprinkle foods with a delicious herb mixture the flavor is released by chewing or heat. When grandmothers recipe called for a pinch of herbs, this pinching released the herbal flavors from the herb plant cells into the foods. A salt free herb mixture can be applied just like salt from a shaker. Add herbs to salads, eggs, vegetables, meats, pasta, potatoes, sweet corn, stews, roasts and soups. Replace your salt with a shaker of fresh zesty taste of herbs. Your taste buds will soon become accustomed to the flavor of herbs and your heart will thank you!
