When will the Herb Plants Arrive?

The hardier varieties such as lavender, rosemary, sage, santolina will be available in early to mid-April. More tender varieties such as lemon balm and mint will be available in late April with the most tender varieties such as basil arriving in early May. New herbs are delivered every week.

Our organic and unusual herb selections will be delivered weekly on Thursdays beginning in early May or late April. Look for our organic and unusual selections on their own disply located on the gravel patio in the herb garden.

We will be happy to take your herb plant requests anytime and call you when your favorite plants arrive. Check your herb plant wish list now and give us a call!.
Ask for our Village Herb Shop Theme Garden plant list the next time you visit.
Herb plants available April through July.

Herb Lady Hints:
Herb seeds are more successful when planted directly in the ground or pots in late April when the soil is warm enough to till. Herbs really are not happy indoors!

Basil must have a warm soil temperature to thrive. Plant basil plants or seeds when night temperatures are 50 degrees or warmer. Until then, keep basil in a pot outdoors during the day and bring indoors at night.

Rosemary prefers cool, bright conditions indoors. Move the rosemary plants outdoors as soon as night temperatures are over 30 degrees and pot soil will not freeze. This is usually in late March in our area. Move rosemary indoors on the days we have snow or ice.

Ask for our Free Rosemary Care Sheet the next time you visit the Herb Shop!

What are people saying about the Village Herb Shop?

Dear Kathleen:
I just wanted to send y'all an email to personaly thank you for my wonderful vistit to the herb shop. I was in town visiting my sisterinlaw and brother this past week from North Carolina, and on the last day we decided to come visit the shop. The last time I was there it was at the old location, I must say that this new location suits y'all so much better than the previous one. I was very sorry to see your beautiful town in such an unfortunate state, we had a rough time getting threw but we did. I think we picked the wrong day to visit altogether, there was some sort of class going on..but that was fine it was to busy before hand. I can't tell y'all how refreshing it was to be greeted at the door by a youger girl(Sara) with an offer for tea, and the tea was amazing. Now to get to the point of this email.. I all my years I have never been treated with such hospitality in a store, I believe we have come upon a time where it has become more important to sell a product then to please the customer paying for the pruduct. Not in this store, I found a brand of customer service unlike anything, even in the south. She helped my pickout gifts for all the people back home that I would of never thought of she helped me with a smile and sincerity unlike anyone else, she was very patient with us and extremely helpful and assured me she had the time to fuss over us. I was just tickeled, I thank all of y'all at the herb shop and look forward to my next visit.

-- With my Deepest Thanks, Marisa Jacobs

Hello Kathleen and staff!
I just wanted to send a quick note of Thanks for the wonderful class you held for our Herbal Thymes Club members this past Saturday. Unfortunately, due to the weather-related problems in and around the Pittsburgh area, six members could not attend. They were all so looking forward to it also. They really missed out on a wonderful trip. The class was so well organized, the help was so attentive and friendly! Not to mention the wonderful care (and food) we got at the Gamekeepers Taverne.

You know it's a real complement to you and your town when I heard comments "I don't want to leave....and let's look over here at this shop, how wonderful!" I know we will be back for another visit soon, and hopefully will not make a wrong turn on the trip out! Thanks again!

P.S. We've already used our herbal salts and just love the flavor it gives to meat and salads!

Dear Kathleen:
Just a quick note to thank you for giving me the confidence and the tools (!) to make some lovely herbal gifts to recognize the work of my son's teachers this end-of-the-year! With help from some hand-outs that I collected last month as an Herb Club member - I made pretty jars of lavender-scented, sea salt scrub! With a few ribbon remmants, other sewing notions and labels I made from some scrapbook things, the jars looked great! My neighbor, who had stopped by on an errand, even asked me where I had BOUGHT them!!!! What a source of great personal satisfaction to make a homemade gift that is useful, natural and scented so nicely - I never would have been able to do such a thing prior to meeting you - and your WONDERFUL shop and employees!!!

-- Hugs to all! Cathy Hougan :-)

Dear Kathleen:
I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for being a part of our super "herby" day in Chagrin. All of our members had a delightful time and we loved your shop and products. I especially loved the plants as I have a garden of raised beds. Lemon Gems and elderberry were two of the plants I had been looking for but unable to find until Saturday. The tall lady with dark hair that helped me with the plants was very nice and helpful. I'm sorry but I didn't get her name.

We ate at the Gameskeeper and the food was yummy. Actually let me rephrase that....we all OVER-ate at the tavern !! HA HA. I'm just sorry that the sky was so drippy and the flower and herb festival vendors suffered. Although I think my group did fairly well by them too. There was one name on my list, Joy Scheiderer, that did not make it on the trip on Saturday. In all of the rush of getting settled for your talk I forgot to mention that. We sooooo wish you were not so far away. Would love to be a regular customer and part of the Chagrin herb community. Thank you again from all the members of the Madison Herb Society. Hope you enjoy the cookbook.

-- Tina DeLong

Dear Kathy:
On behalf of all 25 guests who came to your home on March 11, I want to say thank you so much for the lovely tea. Many who came have sent me emails to say what a fabulous time they had. One of the guests wants to start a new "Clevelanders" activity - "Tea Party," and we hope to meet quarterly for seasonal teas where we can practice what you taught us.

- Carol Wilson

Dear Kathleen:
What a great smile! Thanks for letting me snap your picture at Champion's Herb Fair. We enjoyed your program very much and glad we were able to see you up here in our neck of the woods. My daughter, Lisa and I, will be coming down to Chagrin Falls again soon, we hope... We just can't get enough of your wonderful shop! It's always different each time we visit and always intriguing with new and unusual "goodies." Warm good wishes...

- Bobbie Conners

Dear Kathleen:
Just a note to thank you for a relaxing afternoon for my birthday, May 9th, and my first trip to your Village Herb Shop. Today, we celebrated Anne's birthday at a Victorian Tea Room and were reminiscing about our trip to Chagrin Falls. Hope to see you again soon.

- Joyce DiJosto

Dear Kathleen:
Thank you so much for all the knowledge, good recipes and gardening adventures that you share with so many of us. Your generous and caring nurture makes you an "herbal mother" to all of us.

Dearest Kathleen:
Thank you so much for trying to call me back. I had not talked with you in such a long time. I have been really happy lately because I've been researching and talking to people about edible flowers. You have had a wonderful influence in my life Kathleen. I just wanted you to know. Bonnie and I will see you for class later in the year with sweet basil and lemon thyme.

- With Sage and whatever, Nancy Heraud

Hello, Kathleen:
I took your Herb Gardening Basics class in April. Ive had a small herb garden for about five years. After we added on to the house last year, I discovered there would be an expanded place for an herb garden. This garden really belongs to my two-year-old daughter Ginny who often accompanies me to the Herb Shop. She likes to walk from plant to plant, rub the leaves, and smell the fragrances on her hands. Included in this years garden: chives, cilantro, basil, sage, potted spearmint, oregano, lemon balm, a very young angelica plant, lovage, scarlet runner bean, chamomile, bee balm, lemon verbena, tarragon, rosemary, parsley (curled and Italian), dill, marjoram, stevia, four types of thyme, lavender, blue hyssop, borage, lemon and tangerine gem marigold, and lavender. There is also a barrel planted with zucchini and nasturtium. My father likes to buy annuals for my daughter, so those made it into the garden this year as well. A few varieties of basil grow in the vegetable garden on the other side of the addition. I just wanted to thank you for the inspiration. I am due with a baby (another girl) in just a couple weeks. Im sure she will enjoy the garden one day as well. I hope to be in the shop once more before I have the baby. There are pictures of the new herb garden here: . If you go to the Virginia Giuliana page, you will see a picture of my daughter and a not-so-pregnant me.

- Sincerely, Jean Kanzinger
